Zell / Mosel

The Zell area is under the regional administration of Koblenz. Zell is on the east side of the Mosel river, Kaimt is on the west, now joined by a bridge. Zell became a city in 1222, and in 1229 completed a wall around the city. Kaimt is now part of Zell.
Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul (1786). In 1900 the County of Zell (Kreis) was 372 sq. mi.
Burgen
Kreis St. Goar. Burgen, verbandsgemeinde unter Mosel, Kreis Mayen-Koblenz is between Zell and Koblenz, over the years the administrative jurisdiction has changed. (Standesamt Brodenbach).

Situated on the east side of the Mosel river. Two Km. to Moselkern, 3 Km. to Brodenbach. There is a
castle on the opposite side of the river called Burg Bischofsstein, built in the 13th. Century. The Romans
built a road from Maifeld in the Hunsruck to the Mosel river at Burgen. There was a chapel that became
a full-fledged church (Pfarrkirche) in 1627, St. Sebastian. Anna Maria Gietzen came from 'Burgen'.
The Neisen families came from the Eifel area of Rheinland-Pfalz.
Badem
Verbandsgemeinde Kyllburg, Kreis Bitburg/Prum. Pop. 1,007 Post Code 54634. Four Km. to
Pickliesem. 4 Km. to Kyllburg. Roman artifacts have also been found in or near Badem. In the year 893
it was known as 'Badenheym'. Pfarrkirche (Church) St. Eligius. The Neisens came from Badem, and
Grandpa Valentin Neisen built the school in Badem.
Bitburg
Pop. 12,673 Sept. 2000. Post Code 54634
Bitburg was 85% destroyed in 1944-45 by American bombs and artillery. 2000 years ago it was a rest stop for Roman troops. In A.D. 400, at the time of Konstantin the Great, it was fortified by the Romans, who built 5 metre high stone walls around the town, with 10 metre high round towers, 14 of them including the north and south city gates, and a stone paved north - south road. In Celtic times it was called 'Beda'. (Bedaburg, Budaburg, Bidaburg). Bitburg was given the status of city (charter) by Count Heinrich of Luxembourg in 1226, son of Countess Ermesine. In the 14th. and 15th Centuries Bitburg belonged to the Lords of Manderscheid and the Counts of Virneburg. The city was plundered by the French in 1667.
In 1900 the Kreis Bitburg (County) was 781 sq. mi.,
There is or was a large American Air Base at Bitburg. (about 5,000 Americans)
Dahlem
is now part of Spangdahlem. 3 Km. from Pickliesem. Pop. 894. Post Code 54529
There is also an American Air Base at Spangdahlem. (or was, I do not know if it is still there.)
Dudeldorf,
Kreis Bitburg/Prum, Pop. 1184. 10km. East of Bitburg. Dudeldorf got their town charter on December 20, 1345 from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. (King Johann von Bohmen ).
Between the years 771 and 814 it was called 'Dudlendorf'. Current Mayor Reinhard Becker .

Kyllburg was visited by Kaiser Wilhelm II about 1912. Manfred was born in Kyllburg.

Roman artifacts and ruins were found between Badem and Pickliesem in 1875,
dating to 75 BC. (Roman villa). Sandstone blocks of 50-60cm in diameter.
